Diverter Valves

Tool Description:

Black Gold Rental Tools™ is one of the first U.S. Oil and Gas Service Companies to offer diverter valves that are used in oil and gas drilling applications. Today, most diverter valves are used in conjunction with the RCDs to ensure a positive isolation of the flow line when the RCD is not in use or to divert returns from the wellbore to another area on the rig.

Black Gold Rental Tools™ offers brands such as ORBIT, Hemiwedge (HCV), and WKM, each with a unique characteristic and all pneumatically actuated remotely. Diverter valves are ideally suited for Flowlines, Equipment Isolation, Block and Bypass, and emergency shutdowns.

ORBIT: “Every ORBIT valve incorporates a proven tilt-and-turn operation that eliminates seal rubbing, which is the primary cause of valve failure. When an ORBIT valve is closed, the core is mechanically wedged tightly against the seat, ensuring positive shutoff. When an ORBIT valve begins to open, the core tilts away from the seat and line flow passes uniformly around the core face. This eliminates the localized high-velocity flow that typically creates uneven seat wear in ordinary ball, gate and plug valves. The core then rotates to the fully open position. The absence of seal rubbing during both opening and closing means easy, low-torque valve operation and long-term reliable performance. When valve leakage cannot be tolerated, Cameron’s ORBIT operating principle can be relied upon to deliver a positive shutoff.” — Cameron

WKM: WKM 370D6 ball valves are designed and engineered for heavy-duty performance. Used in many general purpose petroleum and chemical process applications, these valves also can be specified for more demanding applications. The pressure-actuated seats and bleed fittings allow double block-and-bleed operation. When used for block-and-bleed, this feature may permit the valve to take the place of two valves. It also allows the operator to check up and downstream sealing by bleeding off the body pressure. All sizes can block-and-bleed in both the open and closed position. This valve uses pressure-actuated seats with locked-in, non-metallic face seals. To help ensure sealing at low pressure, special wave springs force the seats against the ball. At higher pressures, the upstream seat is forced against the ball by the pressure working across the differential area between the seat insert and the seat O-ring. The higher the pressure, the tighter the seal.

Hemiwedge (HCV):  “The HCV valve is an advanced design that incorporates the positive features of ball, gate, plug and high-performance valves. The HCV valve is a quarter turn, mechanically sealing, through conduit, tight shutoff valve that is well suited for a broad range of applications. It is innovative and effective with minimal maintenance required. The HCV valve design provides low emissions and quick operation capabilities in critical shutoff applications and severe services. The unique stationary core design improves the flow characteristic and protects the body and seat from erosion. The metal seated valve uses the same body and bonnet as the resilient seated valve and is factory tested to the tightest leakage criteria in the industry.” — Chromatic

WKM: “Cameron’s WKM Pow-R-Seal™ gate valve’s smooth continuous bore reduces turbulence. Additionally, the seat faces are outside the flow stream and are protected from contact with the lading whether the valve is in the open or closed position. The WKM Pow-R-Seal gate valve’s full bore makes it possible to drill at high flow rates through the valves without danger of damaging the valve, lodging the scraper, or jamming it with cuttings from the wellbore. The valve’s parallel expanding gate design provides a tight mechanical seal, upstream and downstream simultaneously, which is normally unaffected by pressure variations or vibration. Seat faces are outside the flow stream and in full contact with the gate, in both fully open and fully closed positions, greatly extending the seat life.” — Cameron
